Core Mindset Shifts I’m Making as an Entrepreneur

Stepping into the role of a business owner isn’t just about building products or services, it’s also about building yourself.

When I started Pearl & Satin, I thought the hardest part would be designing websites, creating products, and figuring out my offerings. And in a way, that’s true. It takes time, effort, and creativity. But what I’ve discovered recently is that the real challenge is internal. It’s about how I think, what I believe, and how I choose to show up each day.

Because the truth is: you can’t create a thriving business with a mindset that’s working against you.

As Aristotle said, “Excellence is not an act, but a habit.” And that includes how we think, how we react, how we choose to lead our lives and our businesses.

Here are a few mindset shifts I’ve been working on, and they’re starting to change the way I approach everything.

1. From Scarcity to Abundance

Inspirational text on a dark background with a flower. Message: Shift from scarcity to abundance; focus on serving rather than earning.

This one’s been big. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking there aren’t enough clients, sales, or opportunities to go around, especially when things are quiet.

But I’ve learned to shift that voice of fear into one of service.

Instead of asking “How do I make more money?” I ask: “How can I serve more people?”

The energy behind that is completely different, and even people can feel it. An abundant mindset opens up creativity and connection, while a scarcity mindset just makes you shrink.

2. Fail Fast, Learn Faster

Close-up of a flower in dim light with text: "Fail Fast, Learn Faster: See failure as feedback, not a dead end. The faster you try, the quicker you learn."

I used to fear failure deeply. Like many of us, I took it personally, thinking that if something didn’t work, it meant I wasn’t good enough.

Now, I see it differently: failure is feedback. Nothing more.

Trying things, making mistakes, learning what works and what doesn’t, it’s all part of the process. The faster you move through it, the quicker you grow.

3. Think Value, Not Time

Text overlay on a dark background with a light flower. It reads: "Think Value, Not Time: Wealthy people don’t trade time for money—they create or offer value that scales."

This one was a lightbulb moment for me. Wealth doesn’t come from trading hours for money. It comes from offering value. Things that help people, solve a problem, or inspire action, and then letting that value scale.

It’s why I’ve been creating digital products and templates. Not because they take less time, but because they create lasting value that can serve more people than just me, one client at a time.

4. Ask “Why Not Me?”

White flower in soft light on dark background. Text reads: "Ask 'Why Not Me?' You're not underqualified or too late. You just haven't started yet." Pearl & Satin logo.

This is the most personal one.

I’ve caught myself so many times thinking I’m not ready yet. Not established enough. Not good enough.

But here’s what I’m learning:

No one is more worthy than you. They’ve just started.

Every successful person you admire once had no experience, no audience, and no clue how to begin. What made the difference was that they did it anyway.

So now, when I start to doubt myself, I stop and ask: “Why not me?”

Final Thoughts

Mindset doesn’t change overnight. It’s a quiet, daily shift, a habit we choose to nurture. I’m sharing this not because I’ve mastered these beliefs, but because I’m practicing them. Every single day.

If you’re building something meaningful, just know that how you think is part of the work.

And if you’re working on your mindset too, I’m right there with you.
